Fans everywhere recently tuned in for the highly talked about and publicized fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. McGregor made his boxing debut in quite an epic way, choosing to go head-to-head with one of the greatest fighters of all time. Mayweather did not disappoint, adding yet another win to even out his undefeated record of 50-0.
Afterward, Mayweather was quoted as saying, “This was my last fight tonight…For sure. Tonight was my last fight. Tonight I chose the right dance partner to dance with. Conor, you are a hell of a champion.”
Even though Mayweather has come out of retirement two other times prior to this fight, he swears this is the last and final time. Why bother coming out of retirement at all, though? Well, it’s reported that this fight alone earned him $300 million, making him the third professional athlete to ever exceed $1 billion in career earnings.
Breaking that down even further, his fight with McGregor lasted nine full 3-minute rounds plus 1:05 of the tenth round, which means that every second, he received a whopping $178,041.54.
However, it’s not all about Mayweather; McGregor is walking away with a pretty penny as well. In addition to pay per view earnings, he also acquired around $30 million for simply being there, making this fight more lucrative than all of his previous winnings combined. He may have lost, but he most definitely still won in a BIG way.
