Athletes from all corners of the U.S. are coming together to help out the victims of flooding from Hurricane Harvey. From Robert Kraft to J.J. Watt, these athletes and sports businessmen are coming out of the woodwork to offer what they can.

Robert Kraft

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is making an especially large contribution to the victims of the flooding in Texas by promising to match the first $1 million raised by the American Red Cross in the wake of Harvey’s devastation. At the moment the Pats are working with the Red Cross to set up a website to accept those donations.

Many of the players and other members of the Patriots organization have ties to Houston, which is one of the hardest-hit areas of the storm.

“Houston is a special city to our family and our organization,” Kraft stated. “The New England Patriots and our fans have celebrated two of our franchise’s greatest and most memorable moments in Houston.”

The two such moments Kraft is referring to, of course, is when the Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons this past February in Houston, winning their fifth Super Bowl, and their victory over the Carolina Panthers back in 2004, when they won their second Super Bowl.

J.J. Watt

NFL defensive end for the Houston Texans J.J. Watt decided to start his own online fundraiser for the cause by using social media channels to get the word out for donations. He set out to reach a goal of $200,000, donating $100,000 himself.

Donations began pouring through in a matter of hours, so Watt decided to keep the fundraiser going and raise the goal to $500,000.

His new goal is nearing completion, already having reached $383,000 by Monday morning.

The efforts of Watt and Kraft are just two examples of people reaching out to others to help those in need. Kraft put it beautifully when he stated:

“When natural disasters have impacted our country, they have always unified communities and rallied support throughout the nation. We have already heard stories of heroic rescues and strangers helping strangers in this time of need,” Kraft said. “These stories have inspired us, as we always encourage bringing communities together, building bridges and helping others. We are eager to join in these efforts and provide our support.”
