Midfielder David Silva may be heading back home to Spain for a while.

He made his way back to the field after missing three of Manchester City’s prior four Premier League games due to personal reasons. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said that the 31-year-old needed to put his family first.

“Family is most important,” Guardiola said. “You can see how essential David is to us, but I don’t know how long he will be here. He is free to go [home] again if he needs to. It doesn’t matter if we get no points while he is away. Family is most important.”

There were speculations that the personal matter stemmed from Silva and an issue with his partner; however, it was recently revealed that Silva’s son Mateo was born premature and is fighting to live.

Silva has been a crucial part of City’s success, especially solidifying their two Premier League title wins. It comes as no surprise that the club and his fanbase are willing to give him all the time he needs. Silva extended his contract through 2020 so expect to see him once he has his family settled.
