Back in 2014, the Bulls were actually one of the big names in the Anthony race. Fast-forwarding to the present day, Chicago needs to keep their star in Butler, and the Knicks just aren’t getting along with Carmelo. This sets things up perfectly for a Melo move to Chi-town. In fact, Jimmy Butler has made it clear that he would like the Bulls to pursue the prominent scorer.
A possible move may involve Rondo and a first round pick, plus maybe another piece. Based on rumors with the Clippers, it appears as if it won’t take much to land him. This would give the Knicks a pick to build around, a temporary veteran point guard to temporarily replace Rose, and they would take Anthony’s massive contract off the books.
On paper, it makes a lot of sense for both sides, and both sides have expressed interest in the move. Now, how would this new team look? That’s a good question. The Bulls starting lineup would consist of:
PG – Cameron Payne
SG – Dwyane Wade
SF – Jimmy Butler
PF – Carmelo Anthony
C – Robin Lopez
Key Subs – Nikola Mirotic, Denzel Valentine and Bobby Portis
This actually appears to be a well-rounded team with some solid depth and scoring off the bench. Could they compete with the Cavs and Warriors? Definitely. Would they win? That’s a whole different question. Regardless, this is a team that could certainly compete with the best, and they have a lot of guys that can step up in the big moments.
