After years in the rumor mill, Kyrie Irving’s Uncle Drew movie is finally emerging.
Kyrie snapped a shot all grayed up with Reggie Miller, Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber, Nate Robinson, and Lisa Leslie. The lineup looks like every nursing home’s dream team. Lil Rel Howery and Erica Ash also join this all-star cast.
The movie is based on the Pepsi Max web series starring Irving as Uncle Drew, the elderly man who conceals his ball-playing skills only to dominate in pick-up games.
Irving was originally signed as a local marketing deal when he was drafted first-overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers but his character became the star, reaping millions of YouTube views. Following the success of Uncle Drew, Pepsi trademarked the character and re-signed Irving to do more work.
“I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to build with Pepsi and even more excited for what’s ahead,” said the 25-year-old Boston Celtics point guard.
The film will follow Uncle Drew as he goes in search of his former teammates for the purpose of one last tournament at Rucker Park in New York City.
